J. S. BACH: Saint Matthew Passion
Conductor: András Keller

This Good Friday performance of the Saint Matthew Passion has been included in the schedule as a special evening and hopefully a highlight of what is virtually a Bach theme running throughout Concerto Budapest’s 2025/26 season. This masterpiece, which preserves a sacred character unchanged even in the concert hall and remains eternally one of the pinnacles of European culture, will this time be performed under the baton of András Keller and with the participation of a select group of singers, in a manner worthy of both the holiday and the work’s own greatness. Not to mention creating an opportunity for both the artists on the stage and everyone in the audience to further approach the lofty aim that musicologist László Somfai described as “to delve deeper into the message of the Saint Matthew Passion, to discover more and more of the relationship between words and music, to understand the thoughts concealed behind the notes ever more clearly: this is the undertaking of a lifetime.”
