This is a double birthday, since the concert not only celebrates the anniversary of the birth of György Ligeti, but of the ensemble, too, which in 2018 (and by no means coincidentally) gave their very first recital on the birthday of Ligeti (end of May). On this evening, the audience, and Ligeti Ensemble founded by András Keller and Zoltán Rácz, can look back on a past of just two short years, but the collective undertaking formulated at the start – that is, the representation in sound of contemporary music and music of some 100 years before the present day, as well as the popularization of 20th century masterpieces that have, by today, matured into classics – is already the vigorous tradition of the ensemble. The programme includes masterpieces by two Hungarian giants, Ligeti and György Kurtág, as well as the percussion composition To the Earth (1985) by American contemporary composer Frederic Rzewski who was born in 1938.
