A gentle summer and Mozart's music. Concerto Budapest started this idyllic concert series many years ago and this year the orchestra will be performing in Balatonföldvár with some excellent orchestra members as soloists. This time, we will hear concertos for three somewhat unusual solo instruments and the Little G minor Symphony. Mozart’s Horn Concerto in D major, just like the other two concertos for horn, was dedicated to his friend, the virtuoso horn-player,  Joseph Leutgeb, and consists of only two movements. The manuscript of the 2nd movement (Rondo) is full of curious instructions and remarks for the performer, such as “be brave” or “oh, what a dissonance”, addressed most probably to Leutgeb. Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major following it is often referred to as the most frequently played piece of the bassoon repertoire, and it is often listed as a compulsory piece for orchestra auditions. Mozart was only eighteen when he composed this masterpiece; in fact, he later used one of the themes in its 2nd movement in his  Le Nozze di Figaro. The master wrote his Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra in C major during his journey to Paris upon commission, which he eventually never got paid for. Today, a harp is a regular member of all symphony orchestras, but back in the Classical Period, it was considered a rare phenomenon. Thus, this work is a genuine curiosity in Mozart's oeuvre. Symphony in G minor concluding the night is again an early work, written when the ingenious composer was just sixteen. Its opening movement you can also hear at the outset of Miloš Forman’s famous Amadeus.
