In 2026 as well, Concerto Budapest begins the spring with the eternal favorite of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This year the symphony orchestra is once again organizing Mozart Day at the Liszt Academy of Music. Those who are unable to attend the March 8 concerts in person will still be able to follow the event online, as the day’s three major concerts will be broadcast live on the internet.

As the loyal audience of Concerto Budapest has come to expect, the programs of the festivals associated with the orchestra can also be enjoyed online in excellent quality. Thanks to The Violin Channel, the world’s leading classical music news, media, and streaming platform, the attention of music lovers around the globe may once again turn to Hungary on the first Sunday of March. The three concerts of Mozart Day will also be broadcast live on the Concerto’s YouTube channel and on the Papageno cultural platform. A film of the 2024 Mozart Day broadcast won the prestigious Lowie Award in 2025, which recognizes the best European online content. (The trailer for the film can be viewed here.)

From chamber works to concertos, numerous genres will represent Mozart’s artistry at this mini-festival. As the highlight of the day, one of the most celebrated pianists of recent decades, Elisabeth Leonskaja—often referred to as “the grande dame of the piano,” a former chamber partner of Sviatoslav Richter and a returning guest artist of Concerto Budapest—will perform. On March 7 she will also give a masterclass in Budapest as part of the Concerto Masterclass, at the invitation of chief conductor András Keller. During Mozart Day, in addition to the orchestra conducted by András Keller and Gábor Takács-Nagy, the performers will include pianist Mihály Berecz, the Keller Quartet (András Keller and Zsófia Környei, violin; Máté Szűcs, viola; László Fenyő, cello), and Concerto Winds (Marin Tinev, oboe; Csaba Klenyán, clarinet; Bálint Mohai, bassoon; Bálint Tóth, horn).

This year as well, the Mozart Day concerts offer a rich and diverse program for lovers of classical music. At the 11 a.m. concert, the program includes the Masonic Funeral Music (K. 477), the Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat major (K. 364), and the Mass in C minor (K. 427). At the 3 p.m. concert, audiences will hear the Adagio and Fugue in C minor (K. 546), the Piano Quartet in E-flat major (K. 493), and the Piano Quintet in E-flat major (K. 452). The closing concert at 7:30 p.m. will feature the overture to The Magic Flute (K. 620), the Piano Concerto in E-flat major (“Jeunehomme”) (K. 271) performed by Elisabeth Leonskaja, the Concerto in E-flat major for Two Pianos (K. 365), and finally the Symphony in E-flat major (K. 543).

“Throughout my entire life, this day will remain in my memory as a clear, pure, beautiful recollection. As if from afar, the magical tones of Mozart’s music still softly echo in my ears,” wrote Franz Schubert two hundred years ago about a day he spent immersed in the music of his great and deeply admired predecessor. Recreating such a lasting experience is once again the intention of the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra with this one-day festival. The artistic director of the event is András Keller, chief conductor of Concerto Budapest.
