Held annually in the Main Hall of the Liszt Academy, the Celebration of Hungarian Gems was initiated and is artistically directed by András Keller. It showcases some of the most valuable works of Hungary’s musical culture and heritage.
This year, Concerto Budapest dedicates the one-day festival to the world-renowned Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Once again, one of Budapest’s most exciting musical festivals will offer audiences a wide-ranging portrait of the treasures of Hungarian music—from Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin, through Dohnányi’s rarely heard arrangement of Schubert, to György Kurtág’s new opera, Die Stechardin, featuring the German soprano Maria Husmann.
