Máté Szűcs was born in 1978 in Debrecen. First he studied violin in Hungary and he continued as a viola artist at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, finally he had two musician degrees in Belgium. He received his pedagogical degree in Debrecen in 2008. He gives masterclasses all over the world including New York, Los Angeles, Michigan, London, Berlin, Brussels, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo. Since 2018, he has been the Professor of Viola at the Geneva University of Music in Switzerland. In 2020 he got his PhD Diploma and became Doctor of Arts. From 2011 to 2018 he was the solo viola of the Berlin Philharmonic.
He has performed as a soloist with many leading European bands and renowned conductors. He is a passionate chamber musician and his partners include Frank Peter Zimmermann, Vadim Repin, Kristóf Baráti, István Várdai and Dénes Várjon. His play is guarded by dozens of records.
