TCHAIKOVSKY: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35
TCHAIKOVSKY: The Nutcracker, Swan Lake (excerpts)
Sergei Krylov violin
Conductor: András Keller

In the days leading up to Christmas, it is customary for András Keller and Concerto Budapest to treat the audience to a concert of works by Tchaikovsky. In keeping with this beautiful tradition, they have promised a particularly festive programme this December in the Great Hall of the Liszt Academy.
The Mozartiana suite was composed in 1887 to mark the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Don Giovanni, with Tchaikovsky masterfully incorporating not only melodies by its namesake, but also a few by Gluck.
Sergei Krylov, whose invariably captivating playing has made him a great favourite of the orchestra and Hungarian concertgoers alike, is returning to Budapest to serve as the soloist for the Violin Concerto. And in line with the charming tradition of our pre-Christmas Tchaikovsky concerts, we will once again also hear numerous excerpts from the composer’s ever-popular ballets, including the dance movements from The Nutcracker and, this time, from Swan Lake as well, making the miracle of Advent an incredibly emotional one.
This is because the Russian Romantic, even in his role as a composer of applied music, proved to be extraordinarily capable of creating complete, fabulous worlds in themselves, even within the constraints of a given number of bars and specific character dances requested in advance by the choreographer.
